Vaisakhi 2023
Head to Trafalgar Square to enjoy our Vaisakhi festival, a celebration of Sikh and Punjabi tradition, heritage and culture.
Enjoy free visual arts, spoken word, Kirtan (spiritual music) and Gatka (Sikh martial arts) performances at Vaisakhi festival in the heart of London. There'll be something for everyone, so bring your family and friends too.

Opening ceremony
At 1pm a 10-piece marching band from Asian British Music ('ABM') will perform the Sikh anthem 'Deh Shiva Bar Mohe Hai'.
Langar demonstrations
Watch expert chefs prepare Sikh dishes traditionally offered as langar and promoting sustainability in terms of minimising food waste and encouraging the use of organic produce. Sponsored by Mor Foods.
Food demo by Chef Manpreet Singh taking place at the following times: 1:20pm, 2pm, 2:40pm, 3:20pm, 4pm, 4:40pm, 5:20pm (timing subject to change at short notice).
Talk/Parchaar by Basics of Sikhi taking place at the following times: 1:40pm, 2:20pm, 3pm, 3:40pm, 4:20pm, 5pm, 5:40pm (timing subject to change at short notice).
Gatka performances
Gatka is the name of an Indian martial art associated with the Sikhs of the Punjab region. It is a style of stick fighting, with wooden sticks intended to simulate swords. The Punjabi name gatka properly refers to the wooden stick used. The word originates as a diminutive of Sanskrit gada "mace".
Performance timings are 2:25pm, 4:15pm (timing subject to change at short notice).
Big screen
Appreciate kirtan performances from Qi-Rattan and Manika Kaur recorded especially for Vaisakhi 2022 as well as celebratory messages from Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi MP for Slough and Karenjeet Bains, the first Sikh woman to compete for Great Britain in powerlifting. From 5pm-6pm, we are partnering with the Indian Film Festival and will be showing a collection of shorts films.
Sikh art exhibition
Enjoy a display by Sikh artists from around the world showcasing their finest work.
Talks
What is Vaisakhi: an interactive and educational talks area where you can learn all about Vaisakhi.
Children's marquee
A range of free and fun activities provided by Kiddie Sangat for children to do including Mala making, Khanda colouring as well as creating your own Kirpan on a gatra to take home.
